The Wheel of Time turns, and Ages come and pass, leaving memories that become legend. Legend fades to myth, and even myth is long forgotten when the age that gave it birth comes again. In one Age, called the Third Age by some (and something completely different by others), a wind rose in Randland as the crowd cheered. And they had all reasons to cheer. Because, it wasn’t everybody that managed to get hold of a ticket to:
The WoTstock-concert!
Three days of Peace, Light and No Channeling!
[Author’s Note: You might not know this, but not very long ago there was a big concert in Randland (they have to do something between the books). Unlike you other, unlucky fellows, I was there and saw the whole thing. Of course I had my trusted T’hape-recorder ready. Now, if Elayne ever creates a Link-cable-ter’angreal, I’ll give you it all on soundfiles, but for now you’ll only have the lyrics of some of the best songs. I’ll also add comments and notes of my own. However, after a while I started to hear that the songs sounded very much like some songs we know here in our world…]
Well, let the show begin!
[ NightShade’s Note: The first Band to enter Stage was Salidar Sisters. They are one of the most successful of the recent newcomers in Randland. I guess no one can have missed hearing their breakthrough “From Novice to Accepted” or “Rebellin’ ‘gainst the Tower” from the C’D with the same title. The song that I chose to give you here, however, is a new one.]
“My Baby’s in Love with Elmindreda” sung by Elayne of the Salidar Sisiters
(“My baby’s in love with Eddie Vedder” by Weird Al Yankovic)
Well, my baby, my baby, he don’t want me no more
Ever since she walked right through them Caemlyn Palace-doors
He says those viewings of hers are really tempting
And he don’t cares about my heart, while it quickly goes empty
I’ve seen her putting on the most indecent clothes she’s ever worn
And he’s her very, very favorite Lord Dragon Reborn
Well, my baby’s in love with Elmindreda
He’s all crazy ‘bout that Elmindreda
Once he was mine, but now we’ll never be together
‘Cause my baby’s in love with Elmindreda
Now every time I look at him he turns away
He always keep avoiding me, and never will he stay
But of course it might just be some of his madness coming on
Light, it must be hard to be the Dragon Reborn
But still I’d really like to speak a few more words with him
But he don’t cares for me, he’s just going for Min
Well, my baby’s in love with Elmindreda
He’s got a thing for that Elmindreda
Tell me, what can she do that I can’t do better
‘But my baby’s in love with…
I said I said I said My baby’s in love with Elmindreda
Head over heals for that Elmindreda
Once he was mine but now we’ll never be together
‘Cause my baby’s in love with Elmindreda
I knew it was all going to be a disaster
When she went with the embassy, and left me behind after
Well, now she’s got a woolheaded adoration
For the frustrating, agitating, alienating, dictating
Spokesman for Peace, Hope, Light and Salvation
Well, I still keep sniffing and I don’t wear breeches
I still stick my nose in the air as high as it reaches
I just can’t compete with her beauty and name
But two can play in this kinda game
Yeah, we’ll just see how jealous he’ll get
When I start stalking Galad Damodred
Well, my baby’s in love with Elmindreda
He’s all crazy ‘bout that Elmindreda
Once he was mine but now we’ll never be together
‘Cause my baby’s in love with…
I said I said I said My baby’s in love with Elmindreda
Why’d he have to fall for that Elmindreda
Once he was mine but now we’ll never be together
‘Cause my baby’s in love with Elmindreda
[ NightShade’s Note: That song was the most appreciated of the ones they performed. And since I’m short on
space, I will only write down one song from each band. The next band to enter the stage was the darkest of
them all. Generation F is one of the oldest bands in Randland, but they haven’t been active for a very long
time. They did a comeback a couple of years ago, and is now as popular as it ever was. But they have changed
members lately. They used to have a very good guitarist called Asmodean, but they traded him to the recent
guitarist Aginor. Well, enough of me. Here’s the song!]
“The Forsaken’s Re-union Song” sung by Generation F
(“Jailhouse Rock” by Elvis Presley)
The Great Lord threw a party down in Shayol Ghul
Shaidar Haran got drunk and acted like a fool
A band was playing and the Bore began to swing
You should have heard those freaked out Chosen sing
Let’s rule
Everybody let’s rule
Everybody down in Shayol Ghul
Decided it was time to rule
Demandred he was playing on the saxophone
Aginor was blowing on the slide trombone
The drummer of the evening was Moghedien
And then they started playing, here we go again
Chorus
Sammael and Be’lal said to Balthamel:
“We know you have a story that you’re oughta tell”
Balthamel he turned to them and said: “OK.
I spent the night with Lanfear, and that’s all I’ll say.”
Chorus
Asmodean was sitting on a block of stone
Over in the corner, weeping all alone
Semirhage she giggled and said: “It’s just fair.
If you’re nice I’ll maybe tell you where I hid your bear.”
Chorus
Ishamael fell asleep right by his Sha’rah-game
Graendal and Rahvin danced the night away
Mesaana had a glass and screamed: “I’ll teasch them all”
And the party then continued till the break of dawn
Chorus
[ NightShade’s Note: Another band that has played pretty long now, is the one called The Ogierz. They have,
among other great talents, a young and very good singer named Loial. He started out as a Treesinger back in
his stedding, about which he’s telling us in this song]
“Sweet home Stedding Shangtai” sung by The Ogierz
(“Sweet home Alabama” by Lynard Skynyrd)
Wheel of Time keeps on turning
As I move home to see my kin
I’ll sing a song for them Great Trees
I guess they wonder where I’ve been
Then I’ll marry with that woman
That my mama chose for me
Well, I do really trust her judgement
She knows exactly what I need
Sweet Home Stedding Shangtai
Where the high trees grows
Sweet Home Stedding Shangtai
Light, I’ll come right back to you
I’ve suffered hard from the Longing
I’ve missed my Stedding oh so much
But soon I’m sheltered in my old home
Where no One Power is to touch
Chorus
The human countries have their High Lords
All their nobles, Kings and Queens
But soon I’m far ‘way from politics
I guess you know just what that means
Chorus
[ NightShade’s Note: Well, I for one do really like that song. The next band was the only one that didn’t come
from Randland. Until this concert, Seanchan Hotnights have been fairly unknown on the continent. I have
included two songs from this band, since they were so short. I do think you know the tune of this first song.]
“My Empress is over the ocean” sung by Seanchan Hotnights
My Empress is over the ocean
My Empress is over the sea
My Empress is over the ocean
Oh bring back my Empress to me
Everybody now:
Bring back, bring back
Bring back my Empress to me, to me
Bring back, bring back
Oh bring back my Empress to me
[ NightShade’s Note: At this point the band didn’t get much response from the audience at all, so they decided
to play a Rock-song instead. But they should probably have considered the choice a second time.]
“I put a leash on you” sung by Seanchan Hotnights
(“I put a spell on you” by CCR)
I put a leash on you
Because you channel
You better drop that foul scheme of yours
Yeah, You should watch out, ‘cause I’m coming
Yeaaaaaah
Ain’t gonna take none of you, ruling the world
Ain’t gonna take none of you, all running wild
I put a leash on you
Because you channel
[ NightShade’s Note: This was as far as got in the song before being chased off the stage by a great number of
Aes Sedai, Windfinders, Kinswomen and Wise Ones… Anyway, the next name on the list was Thom Merrilin.
Known throughout Randland from hosting the famous Rha’dio Show “The Randland Rha’dio Contest”. He has
also released multiple C’D’s, the latest “The Life of an ordinary Gleeman” still topping the Caemlyn Charts. I
dare saying that he is close to being the biggest artist in Randland.]
“Travelin’ with Ta’verens” sung by Thom Merrilin
(“Proud Mary” by C.C.R)
I left Emond’s Field in a hurry
Hunted all the way by a Trolloc Fist
Now, I’ve always been a very ordinary gleeman
But soon my life would gain an interesting twist
Wheel o’ Time keeps on turning
The Pattern keeps on burning
I was Travelin’
Travelin’
Travelin’ with Ta’verens
I said we should have gone to Illian
But they insisted on proceeding up to Tar Valon
Now I don’t like them witches, they’re giving me the itches
But Travelin’ with Ta’verens made my life go on
Wheel o’ Time keeps on turning
The Pattern keeps on burning
Travelin’
Travelin’
Travelin’ with Ta’verens
I’m on my way to the Tower of Ghenjei
To save my future bride out of Eelfinn’s land
But even as I marry, I’ll think back and remember
When I Traveled with those two Ta’verens Mat and Rand
Wheel o’ Time keeps on turning
The Pattern keeps on burning
I was Travelin’
Travelin’
Travelin’ with Ta’verens
[ NightShade’s Note: The last band I will show you lyrics from is the one called Dragonica. What can I say? It
was my favorite band for sure. Although I promised only to write down just one song from each band, I know
now that I cannot hold the promise. There are at least three songs here that I like you to see. Enjoy!]
“Livin’ la vida Saidin” sung by Lews Therin of Dragonica
(“Living la vida Loca” by Ricky Martin)
We closed up the Dark Ones prison
But I fear this will make us fall
‘Cause I’ve got a premonition
This Taint’s gonna kill us all
I went mad and killed all my friends
All my relatives and them I loved
I met with the Betrayer of Hope
And now my mountain will rise above
It makes you laugh so madly and hear voices in your brain
It’ll touch you very deep inside, and you’ll never be the same
Yeah, it’ll drive you quite insane
Up, right, downside out
Livin’ la vida Saidin
It follows where you are
Livin’ la vida Saidin
Madness everywhere
Sanity is so thin
It’ll go where you are
Livin’ la vida Saidin
Livin’ la vida Saidin
Livin’ la vida Saidin
Woke up in the Two Rivers
I was a peaceful shepherd-guy
But soon I touched with the One Power
And then Tarmon Gai’don was nigh
It’s always there a-waiting for you to channel once again
And then it’ll reach into your soul, and you’ll never be the same
And your head will cause you pain
Chorus
It will touch you every day and keep laughing at your pain
It will make you face your destiny, and you’ll never be the same
It’ll drive you quite insane
Chorus
“Balefire” sung by Rand al’Thor of Dragonica
(“9 to 5” by Dolly Parton)
Well, I don’t care much ‘bout the time I’m bidin’
Instead I draw a big gulp of Saidin
And weave the weave that is gonna hurt the time
I try to ignore the risk I’m takin’
I’ve gotta stop the World from Breakin’
With Lews Therin raving madly in my mind
I channel Balefire, oh what a chance is taken
But I know that I need it to kill Forsaken
So I have no choice but to burn all Threads that matters
Even though I might just destroy the Pattern
Balefire, a chance in Tarmon Gai’don
Even thought it might just leave no land to fight on
I can try forget, but Lews Therin just won’t let me
Yet I still need it, ‘cause the Dark One’s out to get me
If a thing has happened, I might still change it
I’m just a Weave away to re-arrange it
There’s very few things I can’t take away
Once you’re started, there’s no stoppin’
You draw on Saidin and the Time is droppin’
It’s so much power, and what more is to say?
I channel Balefire, oh what a chance is taken
But I knew that I need it to kill Forsaken
So I have no choice but to burn all Threads that matters
Even though it might just destroy the Pattern
Balefire, yeah I got you where I want you
It can end your time, and you cower for it, don’t you?
It’s a Channeler’s game, no doubt there is about it
But the Pattern’s in danger, no change to disregard it
(repeat Chorus and fade)
“F**k Tar Valon” sung by Rand al’Thor of Dragonica
(“God Blessed Texas” by Little Texas)
I rule a lotta places, been called the King of the World
I’ve played some mighty aces , am with three beautiful girls
Yet after all I’ve witnessed, one thing’s still annoying me
If you saw it from my view, I’m sure that you too would see
That I Hate Tar Valon and the Aes Sedai
Just that kind of people makes me howl and cry
They’re constantly annoying my Asha’man
Now it’s time I show them who’s the boss around
Yeah, I hope you know just who to count on…
…F**k Tar Valon!!!
First they would present me with some major gift, they’d say
Then they locked me in and tried to take me away
Well, I managed to escape but it really took the Dark One’s own luck
So if you excuse me, I have a few geese to pluck
‘Cause I Hate Tar Valon and the Aes Sedai
Just that kind of people makes me howl and cry
They’re constantly annoying my Asha’man
Now it’s time I show them who’s the boss around
Yeah, I hope you know just who to count on…
…F**k Tar Valon
Yeah, I hope you know just who to count on…
…F**k Tar Valon
Yeah, I hope you know just who to count on…
…F**k Tar Valon
[ NightShade’s Note: Well, there you’ve got it. Nine of the best songs from the WoTstock Concert. Yet there
were many more band there, “The Whitecloakers” and “Elaida Learns To Rock” only to mention two of them.
If I feel like it I may post the lyrics of more songs from the concert. But this is all for now. Thank y’all for
reading]
